VetRec provides several pre-built templates out of the box for the most common workflows by default. These templates are already enabled in your account when you get started. If this is your first time using VetRec, it is easiest to start by using one of the pre-built templates and then customize from here on.
Pre-built templates for Notes
Template name | Template description |
SOAP Notes w/ Physical | A powerful SOAP notes template that captures key medically relevant details from your visit and writes it into a clean SOAP note that details subjective findings, physical exam details, assessment and plan. |
SOAP Notes | A simplified version of the above SOAP Notes w/ Physical template - the main difference here that there is a simplified Objective section, in lieu of a detailed physical exam section. |
Pre-built templates for Records Recap
Template name | Template description |
Records Summary | The records summary template is designed to provide you a summary of the patient, list of referrers and key medical details grouped by category (physical exam, prior medication, prior treatments, etc.) |
Records Timeline | The records timeline template is designed to provide you a timeline view of all medically relevant information in the presented records, along with some overview information and high level trends about the patient. |
Pre-built templates for Client Documents
Template name | Template description |
Discharge | Enables you to produce discharges directly from your VetRec visit! It writes a professional, clear and concise summary of the patient's visit, including diagnosis, treatments performed, home care instructions, and follow-up recommendations. |
Email Communications | Enables you to produce an email draft directly from your VetRec visit! Authors a professional summary of the patient's visit, including key findings, treatments, and home care instructions, to be sent directly to the client's inbox. |
rDVM Letter | Enables you to create an rDVM letter directly from your VetRec visit! This will provide a detailed and technical summary of the patient's visit, including diagnosis, treatments, and relevant clinical findings, tailored for the referring veterinarian. |
Kids Story | Enables you to transform a patient's visit into a fun and engaging narrative, highlighting key events like treatments or checkups in a kid-friendly way. |
Customizing pre-built templates
If you like a pre-built template VetRec offers, you can duplicate it and modify it to fit your needs!
Simply click the button on the right of the template you want to duplicate and click Duplicate. Read more on how to modify template on VetRec.

Disable pre-built templates
If you would like to disable pre-built templates for your account, you may do so by toggling this setting off in the Templates page.
In addition, if you are an Admin of a team, you can disable pre-built templates for your whole team. This ensure that only the templates created by teammates are enabled for the team.
If pre-built templates are disabled at the team level, then individual users will not be able to turn it on for themselves.
