Overview
VetRec integrates with VetSource to help veterinary teams create pharmacy recommendations efficiently. VetRec uses VetSource as its source for client and pet records. Many clinics already have an existing integration between their practice management system (PIMS) and VetSource, allowing VetSource to receive client and pet data from the PIMS. When relevant VetSource data is unavailable, VetRec assists users by providing guided inputs to support the creation of new client and patient records, using information from the consult or existing clinic integrations.
Any synchronization between VetSource and a clinic’s PIMS is managed by VetSource and the clinic’s existing configuration.

Recommendations with Pre-filled Information
During visits conducted in VetRec, clinicians can review and edit suggested pharmacy recommendations. VetRec surfaces medications and dosages referenced during the visit and may suggest relevant existing clients based on available Vetsource system data.
Searching for Clients and Pets in VetRec
When a user searches for a client or pet in VetRec:
VetRec queries VetSource for matching records
Search results may include:
Clients and pets that originated in the PIMS and were synchronized into VetSource
Clients and pets previously created directly in VetSource
This allows clinic teams to select existing records and helps reduce duplicate data entry.
Creating Clients and Pets When Records Are Missing
In some situations, such as walk-in appointments or emergency visits, a client or pet may not yet be available in VetSource at the time recommendations are created.
In these cases:
VetRec allows users to create the missing client or pet record in VetSource
This enables recommendations to be created and saved without waiting for the next scheduled data synchronization
These records are stored in VetSource. VetRec does not determine if, when, or how newly created records appear in the clinic’s PIMS.
