Overview
Diagnostics / Labs helps your team review lab reports faster and communicate findings more clearly. Upload a lab report to a visit, and VetRec organizes the information into clinician-friendly and client-friendly views.
Always double check the work done by VetRec. This feature is currently in beta.
Main Areas
Summary
Summary gives the medical team a quick overview of the lab report. It is designed for the first pass through the results, especially when you want to know what deserves attention right away.
It includes:
The main takeaways from the report.
Values that stand out.
Why those values may matter.
Possible differentials to consider.
Suggested next steps.
Results
Results shows the lab values in a clean, organized format. Values are grouped by panel so your team can review the report more easily.
You can see:
The test name.
The result.
Units.
Reference ranges, when available.
Flags such as low, normal, high, abnormal, or critical.
Counts of normal and abnormal values by panel.
Interpretation
Interpretation helps connect related findings and explain what patterns in the lab report may suggest. It is intended to support clinical reasoning, not make a diagnosis on its own.
It includes:
Groups of related abnormalities.
Possible explanations for those patterns.
Differentials to consider.
The lab values supporting each interpretation.
Notes to help guide your review.
Use Interpretation as a starting point for your own assessment. Always consider the patient history, exam findings, signalment, medications, and other diagnostics.
Client Summary
Client Summary creates a plain-language draft that can help explain the results to the pet owner. It is written to be easier for clients to understand than the full lab report.
You can:
Review and edit the wording.
Adjust the tone to match your clinic's style.
Copy the summary for use elsewhere.
Send it by email when email is enabled.
Use Client Summary only after the medical team has reviewed the results and finalized the message you want the client to receive.
Uploading Reports
Diagnostics / Labs supports common report formats, including PDFs and image files such as JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, TIFF, HEIC, and HEIF.
For best results, upload the clearest and most complete version of the report available. Full PDF reports usually work better than screenshots or cropped images.
Adding Labs To A Note
After reviewing a lab report, you can add the lab findings to a medical note in the same visit. This is helpful when lab results come in after the note was started or when you want the medical record to include reviewed diagnostic findings.
The lab report will now be assigned to the note, so even if you make other changes to the note, the lab report information will always be referenced. You can assign a lab report to multiple notes.
